The New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) is a state-formed, non-partisan federation of school boards founded in 1914. It provides mandatory governance training to school board members representing 580 public school districts and to administrators representing the majority of state charter schools.

The Trenton, New Jersey-based group has full-time professional staff who are considered school officials as defined by the state’s School Ethics Board. The NJSBA provides direct services, training, advocacy, and resources to school boards statewide to advance public education and promote success for all students.

How we are managed

The day-to-day operations of the organization are managed by the Executive Director of the NJSBA, Dr. Lawrence S. Feinsod.

The NJSBA is overseen by an elected board of directors, representing the 21 Garden State County School Board Associations and City, County, and Professional Boards. The board is chaired by an elected executive committee, made up of five executives responsible for overseeing the organization’s operations and finances.

The biannual Assembly of Delegates is the primary policy-making body of the NJSBA and establishes its advocacy agenda, establishes bylaws that govern its operations, and elects the officers of the Association. Most of the policies of the NJSBA are derived from resolutions submitted by local school boards for consideration by the NJSBA Delegate Assembly and are voted on by the delegates in each district.

The NJSBA also provides direct oversight and support to the state’s 21 county school board associations, which provide regular meetings, training and support.

Annual Workshop Conference

Each October, the NJSBA, along with the New Jersey Association of School Administrators (NJASA) and the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials (NJASBO), sponsors an annual workshop, New Jersey’s largest professional development conference for managers. school. Typically, it attracts thousands of board members, superintendents and school affairs administrators, as well as other school district staff.

The New Jersey Educational Leadership Foundation

In 2008, the New Jersey Educational Leadership Foundation (ELFNJ) was established. The organization, which has 501 (c) (3) nonprofit tax status, was created to secure non-tax revenues to advance effective governance of public schools through training of local school board members. and looking.

The NJSBA oversees many standing committees that study critical educational issues or assist in the governance process in the following areas: legislation, resolutions, school finance, special education, audit, city councils, standards and evaluation, ethics and NJSBA finance.
