TVS SCS launches rural youth training program at its Oragadam facility

TVS Supply Chain Solutions (TVS SCS), one of India’s largest and fastest growing supply chain solution providers, has inaugurated its new training academy at Oragadam, Industrial Corridor, near Chennai .

The academy will provide essential and specific training and knowledge to help create a pool of supply chain talent, who will be job-ready, for the entire industry. It will also provide a unique opportunity for a social cause to select youth from remote areas, train and deploy them appropriately. Through this new facility, TVS SCS will train approximately 2,000 rural youth each year.

Ravi Viswanathan, MD, TVS Supply Chain Solutions said, “We have created an academy to provide targeted training in warehouse management skills, transportation management and technology-related aspects, ensuring both classroom and on-the-job training. This center’s certification courses will set the benchmark for industry best practices and those trained will be ready for employment in the fast-growing supply chain industry.

The company says India’s supply chain industry is one of the largest in the world and is expected to grow from $382 billion (Rs 30,45,686 crore) to $531 billion (Rs 42,33,663 crore). ) at a CAGR of 7%. There is an urgent need for trained professionals, not only for TVS SCS but also for the entire industry, which has been a key driver behind this initiative.

“We will also replicate this model in other parts of the country, starting with the Western region in the near future. The goal is to train around 5,000 people every year for the next two years,” Viswanathan added.

At present, TVS SCS manages over 18 million square feet of warehousing space in India and has deployed over 700 Material Handling Equipment (MHE) in its operations. In the world of supply chain and logistics, responsible use of MHE is integral to the security of any successful supply chain operation. Given the important role of this equipment in day-to-day operations, training MHE operators on safe operations is essential to protect against potential hazards and work towards the goal of zero workplace accidents.

The Oragadam Training Academy, which is an industrial corridor, has access to a pool of potential learners from neighboring regions. The academy spread over the construction area of ​​29,000 square feet and in this Model Warehouse training facility covers 4,300 square feet. Facilities include a classroom, maintenance spares and tools room, warehouse and material handling equipment (MHE) training facilities. The residential training programs are managed by the academy facilitating accommodation and accommodation for the students during the training period without any cost.

The young workforce trained in warehouse management, operations, data entry operations, security and MHE (Material Handling Equipment) operations would be absorbed into the projects as required.
