Summit County Opioid Healing Fund Grants Aim To Fight Addiction And Recovery

Nearly half of the $ 104 million settlement Summit County received as part of a federal opioid trial is now available to local nonprofits fighting opioid addiction and recovery .

The Akron Community Foundation will award a total of $ 500,000 in grants – with individual grants totaling up to $ 25,000 – through its Summit County Opioid Healing Fund to nonprofits supporting county residents directly. affected by the opioid epidemic.

To be considered, grant applications must meet at least one of these priorities:

• Community strategies that support the goals of the Summit County Opioid Reduction Plan, which includes education, prevention, harm reduction and treatment.

• Programs, projects or events that provide increased opportunities for peer support services, recovery services and community recovery events.

The foundation listed examples, including increasing services, covering operational costs or organizing annual events. However, capital improvements will not be approved.

Priority will be given to organizations meeting the needs of minority or diverse populations; projects that are not currently funded by the Summit County ADM Council; and small local organizations unable to secure support from other larger donors.

Grants will be awarded to programs and projects in Summit County by a county organization for the benefit of county residents. Preference will be given to organizations and proposals that agree to work in collaboration with other members of the community.

Recipients will be required to submit a grant report on how funds were allocated and provide an update on the goals and objectives of the program, project or event.

The application period continues until August 9, with grants announced in September. If there is any money left after the first round, the second application period will be from November 15 to December 10, with grants announced in March 2022.

The funds granted should be used within the next 12 months. Organizations can apply for grants in both cycles if they are seeking funding for more than one program or project.
