SoCalGas supports STEM education in underserved communities with $100,000 scholarship donation to African American Chamber of Greater Los Angeles

GLAAACC Honors Senior Vice President of SoCalGas jeffrey walker as Business Leader of the Year for his commitment to the community and creating pathways for student success

(SoCalGas) announced last night a $100,000 donation to the Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce (GLAAACC) Education Fund and STEM Scholarship Foundation. The announcement was made during the 28th anniversary of GLAAACCand Annual Economic Awards Dinner, where the Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative and Diversity Officer of SoCalGas, jeffrey walker, was honored as Business Leader of the Year. GLAAACC Education Fund & Foundation Scholarships are awarded to students from Crenshaw, Dorsey, JordanHamilton and Washington Prep High Schools who plan to pursue post-secondary education.

Walker was selected as Business Leader of the Year for championing supplier diversity and leadership at SoGalGas. He sits on the board of several non-profit organizations, including Martin Luther King jr. Community Health Foundation, Chrysalis, the National Utilities Diversity Council (NUDC) and the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE).

In 2021, the company’s supplier diversity program spent a record $972.6 million with over 570 women, minorities, disabled veterans and LGBT businesses. It was the 29and consecutive year that SoCalGas has exceeded state regulator goals for supplier diversity programs.
