Saint Lucia: More than 200 parents in Soufrière receive financial support to cover back-to-school expenses
Castries, Saint Lucia: More than 200 parents have been supported by the cabinet of the deputy for Soufrière, Emma Hippolyte, to cover the costs of the start of the school year. The checks were distributed on August 24 and 25. Hippolyte promised that more help is on the way.
The Soufrière Regional Development Foundation (SRDF) will mobilize its diverse and versatile youth resource capacity as part of its “Soufrière 2040” symposium series. The series was conceptualized by the SRDF to invite actors from various sectors to participate in the development of the 20-year development plan for Soufrière. So far, the sports, education and agriculture symposia have been organized under the Soufrière 2040 banner.
The symposium series continues on Thursday, September 15, 2022 with a youth symposium. Youth participants will engage in discussions that critically assess youth development issues. The dialogue will be moderated by animators Jonathan Chalon and Ajani Lebourne.
Both facilitators bring to the discussion table years of experience in youth advocacy, leadership, youth development and mentoring. The young invited participants will represent a wide range of organizations and institutions.
The SRDF Youth Symposium will seek to:
– Co-create a vision for youth development in Soufrière.
– Facilitate a youth-friendly space for constructive dialogue with young people on key issues affecting young people.
– Examine critical actions and pathways to success that support a progressive youth development agenda.
– Build networks, relationships and partnerships between youth agencies in the community and beyond.
