Local nonprofits host golf event to support emergency responders

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) – One Nation Foundation is a nonprofit organization that honors veterans, first responders, and their families through acts of service and financial assistance.

In partnership with a veteran-owned coffee company, One Nation Coffeeprofits from their products are donated to the foundation and the local community.

One Nation Foundation President Michelle Richards says their goal is to serve where there is a need.

“We’ve done a lot to support the heroes program, we’ve provided financial assistance to help with adaptive golf therapy and education for the families of fallen soldiers,” Richards said.

Rich O’Brien is the director of the Hero program and the Lowcountry chapter of Stand up and play. He was an emergency responder who was resuscitated three times in the line of duty after being seriously injured.

O’Brien and his co-founder Josh Swindle created Stand up and play. This is a non-profit organization that helps veterans and emergency responders with mobility challenges.

With the help of a Paramobile wheelchair, partially paralyzed or amputee people can stand and participate in activities like golf with a community of people who have a common experience.

At today’s event, people like O’Brien will honor the hero who saved his life while seeking additional donations from community partners to further the work of their organizations.

Today, at Summerville Country Club, the organizations hold a charity golf tournament to advance their programs and honor their heroes. Kick-off parade begins at 1 p.m.
