Janice Lynn (Black) Novak, 47, of Brownsville, Pa., Passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 5, 2021. She was born on November 9, 1973 in Warren, Pa., The daughter of Patrick and Susan Black of Russell, Pa.,

She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother Lillian Rockwell; paternal grandparents, Lester and Mary Black; sister-in-law, Jody Novak; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Janice graduated in 1991 from Eisenhower High School in Russell, Pennsylvania. She graduated in 1995 from Thiel College and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, with degrees in business and funeral directing. She was a co-owner of Novak Funeral Home, Brownsville, Pennsylvania.

Janice was compassionate, friendly and funny. Her service and impact on her community as a funeral director and heartwarming friend has been far reaching. She was an active member of the Brownsville Fire Company. 1 Ladies Auxillary, Grindstone Lions Club, where she was president of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, a member of the board of directors of the Brownsville Events Committee, the former Brownsville Professional Women’s group and she also served as an election judge for Brownsville Boro Ward 2.

His family will be remembered for his keen sense of humor, his supportive generosity and time for his nieces and nephew and his love for all his family and all animals, especially cats. She loved all the cats, hers, the neighborhood cats: Momma, Miss Priss and Dood, stray cats and she was a strong supporter of cat rescue and foster programs.

Janice enjoyed trips to the beach in Topsail Island, NC with her parents, sisters, aunt, nieces and nephews, traveling the world with her husband, in-laws and friends, read , having coffee, a glass of sweet wine, playing games and puzzles on your iphone, watching TV and movies in particular, reruns of Modern Family and Friends, knitting, going to Alpine Lake in Virginia- Western, St. Patrick’s Day at Bud Murphy’s, dressing up for Halloween and giving treats to all the local kids at the funeral home, shopping secondhand, getting their hair and nails done at Envy, listening to Pink, Maroon 5 and Christina Perri, attending Pittsburgh Penguins games, partying in Cinco De Mayo at his in-laws, the Forth of July parties with friends and relatives, the Steelers hatchback parties at the Eperjesi, the Valentine’s game evenings at Depto’s, his Mini Cooper Convertible, volunteering and supporting many organizations in his community and spending time with good friends.

Along with her parents, Janice is survived by her husband, 23 year old Jason, and their cats: Beesley and Betsy; sisters: Sharon (Kevin) Goode of Erie, PA, and Carin (Rick) Giannini of Warren, PA; nieces and nephew: Ellen Morrison, Dominick Giannini, Emma Morrison and Lydia Giannini; and father and stepmother, John and Karen Novak. Janice is survived by a large extended family of aunts and uncles: Phillip (Jeanette) Rockwell, Rose (Clare) Theuret, Mary Meley and Nancy Theuret; and many cousins.

Friends and family will be received at the NOVAK FUNERAL HOME, 515 Front Street, Brownsville, PA 15417 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. August 8, 2021 and Monday August 9, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. service time with Reverend Roger Diehl officiating.

Interment will be a private ceremony in his hometown.
