Isolation Supports in Yellowknife | GNWT Response to COVID-19
As the COVID pandemic continues to affect our daily lives, the risk of contracting COVID-19 or being named a COVID-19 contact increases. We all need to take steps to be prepared to self-isolate if necessary. This includes having a plan for grocery shopping and other essentials throughout a period of isolation.
Preperation :
If you find you need help obtaining food or essential items during isolation, consider the following:
- Ask a neighbour, family member or friend to help you gather items and leave them at your doorstep.
- Local grocery stores may offer delivery services – place your grocery order online or over the phone for delivery or call a taxi service.
- Local organizations and support groups may be able to offer support with grocery baskets and other essentials.
- Check social media for other support options in your area.
For residents who cannot meet their basic needs, the Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) offers a full range of financial support programs, including income assistance. Income Assistance provides a fixed amount of funding for food and clothing and may provide assistance with housing and utilities based on actual amounts.
To apply or apply for assistance under the Welfare Program, residents may contact the North Slave ECE Service Center at (867) 767-9356.
ECE is aware that many Northerners are experiencing financial hardship due to the current pandemic and will work with applicants to accommodate their circumstances and connect residents with the support needed.
For more information on the Income Assistance Program, please visit: https://www.ece.gov.nt.ca/en/services/income-security-programs/income-assistance
Yellowknife Child and Family Services may be able to provide one-time emergency assistance for essential items to those who have exhausted all other options for assistance. Eligibility will be determined at the time of assessment.
Contact: 1-867-767-9122 and ask to speak to a social worker.
