Houston wraps up its first day at the Schooner Fall Classic
NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Houston’s women’s golf program was tied for 12e after the first 36 holes of the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club on Sunday evening.
As a team, the Cougars scored 296 in the morning session and a total of 291 in the afternoon round for a score of 587 on 36 holes on the 6,112 yard par 70 course. .
Second year Delaney martin and senior Maria jose martinez were tied for 24e at 144 to lead the Cougars with 70 shots each on day one.
Senior Ariana Saenz was tied for 44e at 147, while junior Annie kim was tied for 64e to 152. Second year Nicole abelar stood in 79e to 162,
Oklahoma state held the lead on Day 1 with 549 points, 18 strokes ahead of Illinois. Florida State (568), Texas A&M (568), Baylor (571), TCU (573), Texas State (574), Oklahoma (577), Iowa State (580) and UTSA (583) completed the Top 10..
Caley McGinty of Oklahoma state held the first day lead at 6-67 after shooting back-to-back 67s on Sunday. Kornkamol Sukaree (Illinois) and Taglao Jeeravivitaporn (State of Iowa) were tied for second at 138.
The two-day 54-hole tournament concludes with the last 18 holes starting at 8:30 am Monday.
This is the Cougars’ second fall tournament after competing in the season opener Sam Golden Invitational at the Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch in Denton, TX on September 13-14.

For Monday’s final round, the Cougars will compete in groups with Kansas State and SMU student-athletes, starting with No.10.
Abelar will start Cougar Day at 8:30 a.m., with Kim (8:40 a.m.), Saenz (8:50 a.m.), Martin (9 a.m.) and Martinez (9:10 a.m.).

After the Schooner Fall Classic, the Cougars will start the Blessings Collegiate Invitational from October 4 to 6 at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. The Cougars will join their male UH counterparts at this event, which will air on GOLF Channel. each day.
From there, Houston wraps up its fall program by competing in the Jim West Challenge on October 17-18 at the Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, TX.
