Cenla organizes breast cancer awareness events

PARISH OF RAPIDS, The (KALB) – The Louisiana center participated in two breast cancer awareness events on Saturday, October 8.

In Lecompte, the fifth annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk took place in the morning with dozens of members of the Lecompte community showing their support.

In addition to the walk, the event also featured guest speakers, including those currently battling breast cancer, and a presentation on the importance of early detection. Event organizer Tiffany Conaler said it was important to show support for those battling the disease.

“Having a support system makes things better and easier, and one of the models we’ve held to is that no one fights alone,” Conaler said. “So we want to come together as a city, community, family and friends to support survivors, to support those who are fighting cancer because it weighs on you, so we are just happy to be able to support them. ”

In Woodworth, a lemonade stand started by two sisters was raising money for the Cabrini Breast Cancer Foundation.

Paige, 10, and Piper, 5, started Paige and Piper’s Lemonade Stand in 2021, and it was such a success that they are fundraising again.

KALB learned that Paige wanted to get involved in the fight against cancer after hearing about her grandmother’s battle with breast cancer.

“Paige was at the age where she asked a lot of questions about illness and cancer and I told her about my mother-in-law who had breast cancer so she was very empathetic and said how can I help how can I raise money because I still have my grandma but there are people whose families are sick and how can I do more,” said Lacie Lacaze, mother of Paige and Piper.

“When she got it, we realized other people had it too and we want to help others as much as we can,” Paige said. Piper added her favorite part of the lemonade stand: “When I hand out cookies to everyone.”

If you missed the lemonade stand this weekend, you can still donate on Venmo using Paige and Piper’s code: @pp-lemonadestand.

The lemonade stand will also be at Glacials for girls run on Saturday October 15th.
