Literacies for the 21st Century
August 7th, 2009The word Empire was a mental framework, philosophy that spawned its own literacy. The industrial revolution did the same thing, as did the mass consumer, mass media world. War too brings its own literacy and mental framework, from; WW2, to Vietnam, the Falklands, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Each one one has its own unique way of describing itself. Howard Rheingold, Henry Jenkins, Michael Wesch, and Stephen Heppell all describe aspects of the literacies that will be critical in helping us embrace, understand and survive the early 21st Century.
