The Indy disconnects
July 14th, 2005A hat tip from Simon Waldman and a rant over at perfect.co.uk over the redesign of the Independent site
So what do you do? Start allowing access to your archive of content, so when people link to you, those links don't disappear behind a firewall after a few days, hence encouraging that traffic generating behaviour and with the benefit of producing a massive long tail?
You would think so. Wouldn't you?
So why the Indy have not done this with their redesign and they've also broken all their old links, beggars belief. Every link we've ever made to an Independent article is now dead. Thanks a fucking bunch.
Update: I don't believe it. As Dave points out in the comments below, they also appear to have no search facility, so if I really wanted to find any of those articles we'd previously linked to, I wouldn't be able to?
Sounds like someone has pressed the "disconnect with my audience" button
